Web 2.0 Final Reflection

This was perhaps one of the most fascinating and USEFUL classes I have ever taken. I will have completed my requirements for my master's degree after this class. I did not need this class for my program, however, I needed to take 2 courses in order to receive financial assistance. I, unlike many students, could pretty much choose any class I wanted to take just for the heck of it. I saw this course posted in the summer offerings and thought it I might learn something that would be of use to me as an educator and a business major. This course definitely did not disappoint. As a matter of fact, I have taken away much, much more from this class than I could have ever dreamed.

To answer the professors questions:

What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?
All of them!! I have taken more notes and printed off more material than I will know what to do with. I can not wait to return to school this fall so that I can share what I have learned with others. I am seriously considering asking if I could present some workshops during the Staff Development Days to teach my peers what I have learned.

2. How has this course assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals?
This course has assisted and affected my lifelong learning goals in a BIG way. The course has assisted me by making me more knowledgeable about the various forms of technology at our fingertips. I always thought I was a pretty computer savvy individual until I took this class and realized there is so much more out there for me to learn. Some of the information presented I had heard about, but had never used. Honestly, I thought it would be more difficult to learn, so I never even tried. The course affected my lifelong learning goals by wetting my appetite to learn more. I will now keep my eyes open for conferences, workshops, presentations, ANYTHING to teach me more about web 2.0 and the fantastic technology at our fingertips. I can't help but think, "if I've learned this much in this short of a time, what else is there I don't even know about?" I will search to find out and learn!

3. Were there any take-aways or unexpected outcomes from this course that surprised you?
Take-aways, as stated earlier, was all the information and material presented. Every single bit of it was informative and will be useful for years to come. The only unexpected outcome I can think of, is that I never in a million years thought that by choosing this class, I would learn so much that could be used every day as an individual or as an educator. When reading the course description, I thought it would be useful and interesting. However, it definitely well-exceeded my expectations and I am more than thrilled with the outcome.

4. What could we do differently to improve upon this course’s format or concept?
I do not see where this course needs to be improved upon at all. My only thought was that I wished I had taken it during a normal semester, instead of during the shorter summer semester. I would have loved more time to have some of the other web 2.0 tools in education (video and photo sharing, podcasting, presentation sharing, etc.) be their own module and learn how to use each and every one of them.

5. If we offered another discovery program like this in the future, would you again chose to participate?
GUARANTEED!! Not only would I jump at the chance to participate, but I would encourage friends, family and colleagues to join and participate as well. I will never be able to say enough good things about this course, the material presented, the instructor and the others I have had the pleasure of conversing and learning with.

Thank you so VERY much Dr. Yang for providing us with your knowledge and expertise. Even though I have completed the requirements necessary for my master's degree, I hope I have the pleasure of participating in another class with you someday. You are awesome!!
